On December 5, IFP School’s Powertrains and Sustainable Mobility Center had the honor to welcome an alumnus with a remarkable career: Francisco Carranza, a graduate of the Energy and Powertrains program (class of 2002) and CEO of Basquevolt, a pioneering solid-state battery company based in Spain.

Basquevolt’s technology is based on the use of a patented composite electrolyte, the fruit of more than ten years’ research by the CIC energiGUNE, a reference center in Europe for the study and development of batteries.

This innovation combines polymer electrolytes, offering high ionic conductivity and enhanced thermal stability. It also enables the use of anodes with a high silicon content, thus increasing the energy density of batteries. Basquevolt aims to meet the challenges of solid-state batteries, notably by improving safety and reducing manufacturing costs.

“Francisco’s visit to IFP School shows the attachment of our alumni to our School. His brilliant career also demonstrates the many career opportunities offered by our programs. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate him on his success!” notes Claude Núñez, Director of the Powertrains and Sustainable Mobility Center.

Mr. Carranza will be virtually back at the School to host the next IFP School Voices webinar on Thursday, January 23, 2025 (1 pm Paris time). On this occasion, he will share with IFP School students and alumni his vision of the battery industry in Europe, his experience, the challenges he has faced and the outlook for the future of this key sector.
