Throughout their studies, students in the Petroleum Engineering and Project Development (PEPD) program supplement their theoretical training at IFP School with numerous field placements.

These field placements are at the heart of the School’s « learning by doing » philosophy, which focuses on the learning and technical mastery of professional gestures.

The students started 2024 with three field placements periods.

The first was in Vernon, at the GESIP industrial safety training center, where they were put through their paces in real-life situations involving fires from a variety of sources in an industrial environment.

The second was in Béziers, where the students were welcomed at the Cameron production site. Here, they visited state-of-the-art workshops for the machining of safety equipment used to control wells, both on the surface and on the seabed. They were able to verify the reliability and robustness of the equipment used by the drilling industry.

The third was at the École française de forage (EFF Training) in Lescar, where students had the opportunity to meet experienced drillers who have worked in France and abroad, drilling wells for hydrocarbons, geothermal energy and CO2 storage. The students took part in practical exercises involving the assembly and dismantling of equipment.

They completed their final training period at IFP Training in Pau, where they completed their International Well Control Forum (IWCF) level 2 certification. The aim of this training is to make them aware of the problems and consequences of an eruption. It also enables them to understand the causes of an eruption and how to control it.

Zita Kasparian, Manager of the PEPD program, accompanied the students during these three immersive sessions.
